THE ART ROADSHOW - Review by Barnebys

Buying art, where to start? A dealer, a gallery, visit a museum for inspiration? Art advisor Iréne Carlson has devised the Art Roadshow, a tailored tour of Stockholm’s thriving art scene which will provide you with the inspiration and expertise to start of build your collection. Iréne Carlson, an art valuer certified by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce and a qualified guide by Stockholm’s Visitor Board, has more than 20 years of experience in art consultancy. “The Art Roadshow” offer an expert’s insight into Stockholm’s diverse art scene. As well as a rich history of distinguished dealers and galleries, Stockholm’s innovative artscape is renowned for its contemporary art and photography, with galleries and institutions, such as The Photographic Museum, ”Fotografiska Muséet”, an international meeting place where everything revolves around photography. The museum never fails to offer innovative exhibitions.

The Art Roadshow tours can begin with a day of soaking up Stockholm’s culture, visiting institutions such as Museum of Modern Art, Millesgården and Thielska Gallery to feed the imagination. After a day of Stockholm’s finest art institutions, Iréne Carlson tailors the next day of gallery visits to the collector’s taste. It’s all up to you and your expectations! This is a unique art tour, conducted by an Art Expert and customized only for you! Exclusive visits at artist’s studios and private viewings in galleries can be arranged at your choice and in addition to that you will receive first class transport. Carlson Art, Tours & Events is collaborating with Stockholm Limousine Service AB.

To get your art tastebuds in the mood for something Scandi, here’s an example of a day with Carlson’s art expertise: Start the morning with a scenic drive to Djurgården, the beautiful island which once was a royal hunting ground and is now a part of the world’s first National City Park. Here, check out Waldemarsudde Art Museum with its stunning sculpture park. The mansion once belonged to Prince Eugéne, who was not only a famous artist himself but also an avid art collector. The next stop is at a prestigious art dealer in Stockholm who has a family owned business run by the third generation. Founded in 1922, it is today’s world leader in Scandinavian Art as well as exhibiting works of art ranging from international Old Master paintings, like to the 18th century as well as Contemporary Art. Then it is on to a gallery which was the first in Scandinavia to exhibit American Pop artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein and Frank Stella.

Maybe a lunch break at Hotel Lydmar? A life-style hotel with an artistic vibe, adjacent to the waterfront and a magnificent view over the Royal Palace and the Old Town. A trip to a famous antique shop which exhibits and sells an exquisite blend of upscale antiques and art. They focus on ‘’antique versus contemporary.’’ It is worth mentioning that they won the Collector’s Award a few years ago as the best exhibitor at Sweden’s largest art and antique fair.

Also on the agenda is an exhibition at Sven-Harry’s Art Museum. Sven-Harry Karlsson who founded the museum, was a building contractor and an art collector. He decided to build this spectacular museum with its gleaming brass facade, designed by Wingårds Architects, just because he wanted everyone to be able to enjoy his art the way he did!

And then, why not finish this art roadshow with another interesting contemporary art gallery which is at the forefront when it comes to international sculpture. They exhibits artists including Louise Bourgois, Anton Gormley, Tony Cragg and Jaume Plensa.
